Rich & Ramona Wagner #018100
The Wagners joined Mission to the World in 1981. After working for ten years under a cooperative agreement with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Colombia, they joined the Bogotá church-planting team in 1993. Rich was the Bogotá Team Leader and Pastor of the first church started. They had to leave Colombia in 1995 for security reasons.
From 1996 to 2006, Rich was assigned to Monterrey, Mexico as MTW’s Coordinator for Northern Mexico. He was responsible for maintaining a healthy relationship with partnering Mexican National Presbyterian Churches in five presbyteries and two Synods. He coordinated MTW’s efforts with theirs in terms of church-planting projects, IMPACT groups, medical brigades, and identification of potential Mexican leadership. This also includes the facilitation of demographic studies, recruitment of missionaries, and supervision of MTW personnel in Northern Mexico.
Ramona teaches evangelistic Bible studies, art, photography, and crafts to women’s groups. She also was the hostess for 20-30 home outreach buffets each year. Usually, 40-50 people attend these dinners, which the team used for a variety of evangelistic and discipleship purposes.
Currently, the Wagners are assigned to the Cuzco Peru Hinterlands Ministry.
This ministry is defined as church planting through leadership development among non-Hispanic people groups throughout Latin America. The Hinterland ministry is presently concentrated in Peru and is working toward ministry models that will be applicable in other parts of Latin America particularly in other areas of Peru and in Ecuador.
There are 9 to 10 million Peruvian Quechuas who are virtually unreached with the gospel of Christ. Counted as descendants of the ancient Incas, Quechuas are often bound by superstition and geographic isolation. The goal of this team is to initiate and facilitate multi-cultural church-planting teams among four of the largest Quechua-dialect groups in Peru, producing a church-planting movement among these peoples.
Ramona will work with Ruth Powlison, in Quechua woman’s ministries, and “The Josephine House”, an orphanage for abandoned Quechua children.
