Dear Praying Friends, Our month in Huánuco has turned into two months, and it is a lovely place to be delayed. The temperature is perfect, the city easy to get around in and the Lord has blessed our work and lives in ways we can never even begin to count: "Jesus the Son of God is our great High Priest who has gone to heaven itself to help us; therefore let us never stop trusting Him. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses.. So let us come boldly to the very throne of God and stay there to receive His mercy and to find grace to help us in our times of need." Heb. 5:14-16 LB Everything we have been doing has been centered around getting the remaining 60% of the Kashinawa New Testament checked and approved by our translation consultant Mark so that we can go on with the next steps and get our manuscripts ready for publication by the Peruvian Bible Society. When we arrived in Huánuco, the electricity and water supply were both almost non-existent for two weeks due to various problems, but that is in the past and we all survived none the worse for wear. We were able to work with a generator for a bit of the time and with a solar cell most of the rest of the time, and by being creative, we really lost very little time. Work with our translation consultant Mark starts at 7:15 a.m. each day and we go until 5:00 or so, six days a week. Then he has homework to do from our day and I have been able to work on other revision related jobs in the evening. But it has brought us to the point where it looks like we will just finish the check in the amount of time he has to work with us before leaving for two weeks, and at which time our co-translators also have to return home to make arrangements for their sons' next year schooling. Mark will leave us with suggestions and questions to respond to via e-mail and we are anticipating working on these in the Kashinawa village of Nueva Luz. No, we don't have e-mail there, but we can either take a day's trip downriver and use the e-mail at Esperanza or just wait until we return to Pucallpa, or there may be some surprise way to get a computer diskette sent on to someone who can e-mail it for us. We specialize in uncertainty. We are hoping that Roberto and Waldemar can return to Esperanza on November 22 or 25th and then on to their villages, and that we can go to Esperanza on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and then on upriver to Nueva Luz to start work. Dick is busily getting our packing done and hopes to send our cargo out on the 25th. That would give Roberto or Waldemar the chance to deliver it for us and we wouldn't have to travel with so much stuff, for we will be picking up our other co-translator Tufí and his wife Maria and undoubtedly some extra family members who want to take an extra trip on Montag gas.
HOW CAN YOU PRAY? We thank you very sincerely for your prayers for us and your financial gifts either personally or through your church. God is good, and we are very grateful for your part in our ministry. Most of you who get this letter are in my prayers and Dick's at least weekly. If you have prayer requests or updates, do let us know for we put a high priority on our prayer time. I am sorry that this cannot be a personal letter to each of you this time. I will try to do better next time. Please remember that we will be out of e-mail contact from Thanksgiving and on, so please eliminate us from your "forward list". We will let you know when we return to Pucallpa and will hope there will be letters waiting from many of you.
