Paul’s interest in medical missions began while attending a health professions magnet high school in San Antonio, Texas. The combination of medical service and making disciples for Christ seemed to go hand in hand. For Kim, working at an inner-city clinic in Chicago before medical school sparked the desire to practice among the medically under-served. An Urbana missions conference expanded that vision to include international ministry.

After their marriage in 1999, Paul and Kim continued to pursue missions together. Medical student missions trips to Mexico and caring for Spanish-speaking patients in Dallas gave them a heart for medical work in the Latino culture.

Paul and Kim will be working at Hospital Vozandes del Oriente in Shell, Ecuador, which was founded in 1958 by HCJB Global to serve the tribal communities of Ecuador’s Amazon jungle. Paul will serve as anesthesiologist, while Kim will work part-time as a pediatrician. They are excited about the opportunity to use their medical skills directly in a ministry setting. They also look forward to the many ways this cross-cultural experience will bless their three boys.
