Family & Ministry Profile

Ministry focus: Keith and Glenni are part of the MTW middle-class church planting team in Lima, Peru, a city of 7-8 million people situated in the coastal desert region of Peru. They use English instruction, Keith's involvement with the Rotary Club, and Glenni's skills as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant to open doors for evangelism and discipleship. Keith is in charge of the children's ministry at the Surco Presbyterian Church, and also helps coordinate visits from short-term teams. Glenni works with a non-governmental organization and with the Ministry of Health to educate health care professionals. They have 4 children, Sarah (6-22-88), Daniel (4-15-91), Anna Joy (12-9-94) and John Carl (9-2-98).

THE LORICK LINK TO LIMA
VOL. 5, NO. 1 March, 2000

Special Beginnings

The year 2000 began for us in a wonderfully memorable celebration with our church family. We arrived at church New Year's Eve in time for a worship service, which culminated with the Lord's Supper just before midnight. In a culture where alcoholism is rampant, and everyone was toasting the New Year with champagne, it was a study in contrast to receive the New Year by partaking of the body and blood of our Savior. As the clock struck 12:00 we were singing our closing hymn:

"Renuevame, Señor Jesús. Ya no quiero ser igual. Renuevame, Señor Jesús, Pon en mí tu corazon. Porque todo lo que hay dentro de mi necesita ser cambiado Señor.
Porque todo lo que hay dentro de mi corazon,
Necesita más de tí."

That hymn expresses the deepest longing of our hearts. We want to be changed and renewed by our precious Lord. As He puts His heart of compassion in us, we will not be the same people we were before. Sergio, Glenni, and Israel hang in until the end in Musical Chairs.

After the closing hymn, the party began. We played Pictionary, Musical chairs, had skits, made up motions to songs, and enjoyed the most delightful New Year's Celebration that we can remember.

The second week of January we enjoyed a refreshing time with our MTW co-workers in Peru at our annual retreat. Pastor Larry Gamble from Clinton, South Carolina, shared with us. During that week, we received an invitation from the Lima team to return as career missionaries.

The following weekend Keith accompanied the young adults from the Surco church on their summer retreat. He spoke 5 times on the theme "A Vision for 2000." He encouraged them to actively grow in their personal walks with the Lord, and to take on responsibility as believers. He led them in writing their testimonies, and two of the attendees realized they didn't have a testimony to write. Now they do! Please pray for Jeffrey and Ketty in their new walk with Christ.

At the end of January, we had the joy of a visit from Keith's parents, and we took 2 weeks of much needed vacation. We visited Cuzco, saw Machu Picchu, went to Paracas and Ica, and made some great memories!

The Loricks Will Be Coming Back to Lima

As we look ahead, we are excited about the opportunity we have to return to Lima. We do have some specific requests:
* Pray for us as we turn over our various responsibilites to Peruvians. We need leaders for children's ministry, young adults, and the Bible study in Salamanca. We are thankful for Gladys Olivera who will take over the mother's Bible study.
* The Peruvian elections will be held April 9. The political climate is a bit shaky, at best! President Fujimori is running for a 3rd term, which is clearly against the new constitution that he established in 1992.
* We will be leaving our 3 older kids for a week in May as we travel to Assessment Center. Pray for their peace during this time.

* We have several specific needs as we return to the states:
* We need a place to live. We don't know for certain where we will settle yet. If your church has a mission house, we would be interested!
* We praise the Lord for giving back to us the car we gave to our dear friend Sue before we left. However, it will only seat 5, and we are now a family of 6. We are praying for a van or large station wagon so we can come see you.
* We need clear direction about the children's schooling. Their school here uses A Beka, and one possibility is home schooling. Pray for wisdom for us in this area. Sarah will be in 6th grade, Daniel in 4th, and Anna Joy in Kindergarten.

Let us hear from you! We look forward to seeing you and sharing about the work here.

Your colaborers in Christ,
Keith and Glenni
