May 12, 2006 Update

Dear Prayer Warriors, Sister and Brothers in Christ,

We are ecstatic to announce to you that we are here in Peru! It has been quite a whirlwind getting here. The dust is just beginning to settle. We now have e-mail and are working out some of the glitches. Please let us know if you have trouble reading this. We will have to soon send pictures so you can get a glimpse of our lives here. We have started language school and our minds are full of trying to translate just about everything that we think or say. Kayla is going to start two mornings a week at a preschool down the road next week. We're excited for her to begin to pick up Spanish as we know it will be so much easier for her than it is for us. Bella will never even know any difference.

Arequipa is a beautiful place. The weather is perfect! Its about 70 degrees during the day and in the 50s at night. We are surrounded by the Andes mountains and even a couple of volcanoes. We are enjoying going to the market several times a week and getting to know the vendors. We walk almost everywhere, and when that is not possible, we jump in a taxi. Traffic is ridiculous here- honking and swerving everywhere.

Kayla and Bella get A LOT of attention. Everybody loves babies here, so Bella gets passed around whenever somebody gets up the courage to ask to hold her. Kayla is called a beautiful doll almost everywhere we go. People love to touch her hair and smile.

Please join us in praising God and in prayer as we continue to adjust to life in Peru.

PRAISE- God has been so good to us these past two weeks in ordering our steps and providing us with several missionary families that have helped us to settle in.
PRAISE- God has provided a good friend for Kayla. Her name is Colette, a missionary kid who just turned 4 and is bi-lingual.
PRAY- for Kayla's adjustment to living here. She does not like people touching her and looking at her. She does not understand what people are saying. Pray for wisdom in caring for her and helping her to feel comfortable here.
PRAY- for sharp minds to be able to get a handle on the Spanish language, for energy to push past the frustration of not understanding and to find the joy in the little breakthroughs
PRAY- for safety and health for all of us
PRAY- that we would have incredible times with our Savior in the midst of the business of language school

Thank you for caring for us and especially for your prayers. We need them! We would love to hear from you.
