Street Child AcapulcoOctober 6, 2007Jamie and Jennifer BurkemperUpdate - Medical EmergencySorry we have not updated everyone on John and our quick trip to the states. If any of you did not get the prayer request last Sunday or Monday I am sorry. John broke his arm very badly last Sunday afternoon, the place that he broke it was right in the middle of his metal plate that he had put in last year when he broke it. The metal plate actually bent into a 90' Angle, the doctors here wanted to send him to Mexico City but we chose to go to Dallas on the first flight out of Acapulco on Monday morning. We arrived in Dallas Mon afternoon and went straight to the Doc’s office and had surgery first thing Tuesday morning. It was outpatient surgery but he was there from 8-5. The surgery went well. We rested and stayed in Dallas until Thursday. John and Jen went to St Louis to stay with family. John has an appointment with another Orthopedic Pediatric specialist next Fri. Jossi and I came back to Acapulco. Jen will return here in 2 weeks and John will stay with our family as he will have a couple more appts with the specialist, until we return to the US in November for the Mission Conference in Atlanta. The pain in John’s arm is starting to subside today. The doctors want to remove the metal plates in 6 months so we are not sure how that will play out with our plans next summer. If we delay, they say that it can be more difficult to remove them as his bone will grow around the plates. He will need to return for the surgery and will be in a cast for 2 months and will have to be careful for some time after that. We know many of you were praying for John and our trip. We can't thank you enough as he answered all your prayers and then some. We did not think we knew anybody in Dallas until we arrived and Mission to the World had us contact a church there that had visited us this past summer. I also found out that my cousin was working in Dallas as well and got us hotel rooms for the 3 nights we were there. The church was great and Johnny, an intern at that church who actually spent 6 months here in Acapulco and who we know very well, gave us rides and spent time with us. Also their Mission Pastor and his wife spent all day in the hospital with us. It was such a great blessing to us in a time of helplessness as we could not do anything for John and his pain and we had no idea how to get around the city. Thank you again and Bless you all for your thoughts and prayers. God Bless Jamie Burkemper October 10, 2007 |
