Quick Mid-Winter Update

Dear Family and Friends,

The cold and rainy season is upon us.  We are sticking close to the woodstove and trying to stay healthy.  The “Swine” Flu has hit Chile with a vengeance.  The kid who sits next to Stacey at school has it =O.  It’s all over the place (along with other bugs) and lots of things have been canceled as a result.   This past Sunday there were no kids between the ages of 0-11 for Sunday school.  (There’s the potential for about 12 on any given Sunday.)  Nevertheless, God is faithful!  No surprise there.

MEN IN LEADERSHIP TRAINING!!!!  This has been our big prayer request for a long time now.  We are thrilled to report that we have two candidates going through deacon and/or elder training with Alex and Greg.  Hardy Cárdenas is a retired investigative police agent with lots of energy to serve the Lord.  Jaime Ulloa is a military officer who along with his wife Soledad have been a huge encouragement to our church with their continual support, friendship and servant hearts; they have become involved as if they will be here forever, yet as military, they are subject to transfer at anytime.  Please pray for these men and God’s work in their lives.

FIVE COUPLES MEETING IN PUERTO MONTT:  Greg and Alex have been traveling to Puerto Montt regularly for a Saturday evening Bible study with five couples.  What an encouragement it is to see two of the couples (eager to see a new church planted there) take a lead role in inviting and hosting the other three “seeker” couples.  The Lord is allowing a variety of trials in these couples’ lives (job loss, depression, friction with children) that we can pray will draw them toward Him.

PRAYER FOR OUR KIDS:  After having such a wonderful adjustment to Chile and thinking things would be downhill from there, the girls are having a particularly difficult year.  There have been lots of changes at the school.  Several of their favorite teachers were fired at the end of last year and replaced with ones that don’t seem as gifted at teaching.  In addition, at 14 and 16, they are at that age where kids are choosing different “social paths” that are often difficult to deal with.  Please pray for them as they deal with these stressors and try to organize their time to be able to get everything done.  And pray that they would see God’s faithfulness with each changing circumstance.

Thankful for your partnership,
Grace and peace and much love,

Marilyn and Greg Senter
