THE MATTHEWS' INFORMATION SHEET

MAIL

Frank and Suzanne Matthews
Instituto de Lengua Española
Apartado 100 - 2350
San José, Costa Rica

*      Letters sent to Costa Rica should be marked "air mail".  Remember, air mail letters require additional postage. Currently letters are averaging about eight days to reach Costa Rica from the States

*      Please DO NOT send packages bigger than a padded envelope as they are likely to get taxed or "disappear" in the Costa Rica mail system

*      Generally speaking, things sent in manila envelopes have no trouble reaching the institute.  Everything mailed to Costa Rica, except books, is subject to duty charges.  Getting boxed packages can be a time consuming process if they are stopped by customs officials.  Sometimes packages arrive without a problem, other times we will have to go to the post office and pay a customs charge.

Time

Costa Rica and Peru are on Central time in the US, and they do not observe the changes of daylight savings time.  This is one or two hours behind Eastern Standard time in the US depending on the time of year.

Phones

Yes, we will have a phone in Costa Rica.  We will send out our phone number once we get to Costa Rica.
